Dan Gelber

“Clients want to know their lawyer’s voice will not be lost in the crowd – they want their position to be presented forcefully and, most importantly, heard.”

Dan Gelber has handled some of Florida’s most sensitive and complex legal matters. As a top federal prosecutor and as an attorney in private practice, he has shown the kind of judgment and legal acumen that attracts clients who expect their attorney to be the best in the courtroom or at the negotiating table. He is AV rated and listed in Best Lawyers in America, Florida Legal Elite, South Florida Top Lawyers, and was also recently named to the 100 most influential people in Florida politics.

As a federal prosecutor for nearly a decade, Dan handled national cases including public corruption, economic and environmental crimes, civil rights, health care fraud and government fraud cases. He argued appellate cases in the Eleventh and D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. He eventually became the top deputy in an office of over 200 lawyers.

Dan left the United States Attorney’s Office and was tapped by former United States Senator Sam Nunn to be the Chief Counsel and Staff Director to the United States Senate’s Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. Dan led a team of prosecutors and federal agents in investigating international terrorism, cyber security issues, and fraud waste and abuse in government programs.

As an attorney in private practice, Dan has been with some of Florida’s finest law firms, where he represented companies in both government and internal investigations, white-collar matters, and complex litigations. He has tried employment, trademark, commercial and contract disputes as lead counsel, represented major companies in class actions and complex litigation, and conducted internal investigations for corporate and health care clients. Dan has argued civil appeals in the federal and state appellate courts.  He has also been appointed by the federal court as a Receiver of a major securities fraud.

In addition to practicing law, Dan currently serves as Mayor of the City of Miami Beach, having been elected in November 2017.  Previously, Dan served for a decade as a Florida State Senator and State Representative, and was elected the House Minority Leader in 2006. He was the Democratic nominee to be Attorney General of Florida in 2010, and is considered to be one of Florida’s most respected voices on public policy.

Dan attended Tufts University and the University of Florida College of Law, where he was a Truman Scholar. He has been a volunteer Big Brother since 1985, and co-founded a summer camp for children with cancer, where he has volunteered most summers since 1986.

Dan is a native Floridian and lives with wife, Joan Silverstein, and their three children in Miami Beach.
