Freddy Funes is a partner at Gelber, Schachter & Greenberg, P.A.
Freddy has briefed various issues on appeal, including before the Florida Supreme Court, the Florida District Courts of Appeal, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. He has also represented clients in commercial litigation before federal and state courts in Florida.
Since 2016, Freddy has been honored as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers. In 2015, Freddy was selected as a one of the 40 outstanding South Florida lawyers under the age of 40 by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Freddy joined Gelber, Schachter & Greenberg in 2013, after serving as a law clerk to the Honorable Stanley Marcus in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit from 2012 to 2013 and to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida from 2010 to 2012.
Freddy has represented clients in commercial litigation and on appeal. On appeal, Freddy was appointed by the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals as amicus curiae to represent the Court on a novel First Amendment issue. Before the Florida Supreme Court, Freddy has briefed gambling issues and issues related to voters’ ballot initiatives. Before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Florida district courts of appeal, Freddy has briefed matters related to breach of contract, partnerships and corporate law, the Federal Arbitration Act, receiverships, and injunctions.
Before the U.S. Court for the Southern District of Florida and the Florida circuit courts, Freddy has represented plaintiffs and defendants in a variety of important commercial matters. His clients have included companies and individuals, which he has defended in disputes of fraud, breach of contract, Employee Retirement Income Security Act violations, and other commercial matters.
Freddy has also undertaken pro bono cases on appeal. For instance, he has represented individuals, pro bono, in immigration and civil-rights appeals.
Freddy is a fluent Spanish speaker.
